This site is dedicated to the sport of Deep Sea Boat Fishing by Rod and line. We will always give you honest reports and advice on the subject and the object of this page is to give you information of how to get the best results from a fishing holiday to Alderney, including what tackle to take and where you can get local bait and on the spot fishing tips. It should be noted that fishing is not an exact science and the info below is based on personal experience and input from experienced anglers and skippers that fish these remarkable waters.

The best time of the year for Turbot and Brill is in the spring and autumn, fishing on slow moving neap tides is probably best but not necessarily so as good catches can be found on most tides particularly in the peek of the season, however at other times of the year you will not find big numbers of fish possibly because there breading time is July/August when they move inshore to spawn . It is also worth noting that what fishes well one day may well prove disappointing the next even at the top of the season.
Bass fishing starts to pick up in the summer building up to a peak in September/October and it dose not always follow the pattern that you need a good tide flow to catch them. Reports have been received recently of good catches on slack water, |

Yes Alderney has such a huge variety of ground on which to fish that this often proves to be the case.
The down side is the tide flow which is very strong and because of it geographical location there is more than one tide converging on the area, you are also advised to only go out with a competent skipper as there are many rocks that lurk just below the surface at some points of the tide.

while I have seen great results on the ebb when the sea seems to cloud up for a while, but new ideas have been tried too so I ’am told and with great success, including float fishing on one hot mark, Deep dive Rapala’s prove very effective as do the old favourite live mackerel or launce, so it’s worth experimenting as well as using the traditional method of a two hook fixed penal rig and long flowing trace.
The channel Cod show up on the wrecks during May and June, with Pollack Conger and Ling from April all through the summer. |

Shark fishing is normally good during August and September along with good size Tope and Huss but there is also a good chance of a Beagle during the early winter months when there normal food becomes scarce.
Bream are a favourite summer fish and the peak time for them is during July when some good size fish can be caught.
The main thing to remember as always, is you never know what might show up like a John Dory for example like the one below that is in contention for the Fish of the Year 2009. |

Bed & Breakfast establishments and there was also a camp site when I was last there. Evening meals can be found in a variety of locations with an excellent selection of restaurants and pubs that do food along with a Chinese take away and a Fish and Chip shop so something for every budget and therefore no need to go hungry.
A good selection of tackle can be found on the quay each morning or from the shop in the town and you will find Mark Harding the proprietor the right man to advise you on your bait and tackle needs as he is a not only very keen angler, he is indeed passionate about fishing. His tackle supply is reasonably priced and comparable to UK shops, it is also VAT free.
